About

Mary Wood makes contemporary landscape paintings with a sense of place. Her work is expressive and frequently based on intuitive mark making with pen and ink.
Currently Mary's work is based on Wicketwood Hill, near to her home in Nottinghamshire, UK. Although this area was originally part of Sherwood Forest, it became the site of Gedling Colliery from 1889 - 1991. Subsequently the area became a country park in 2015. In her paintings Mary seeks to reflect both the industrial heritage and changing use of this place.
